Bachelor of Design - UXD pathway

What: Bachelor of Arts (4 yrs)

Where: MacEwan University

Why: MacEwan’s newly revamped Bachelor of Design, which launches September 2019, includes a User Experience Design (UXD) pathway. It is the only user experience design program offered in the Prairies at the undergraduate level and is the result of consultations with industry leaders from across the province. The UXD pathway focuses on designing for traditional digital platforms (apps, websites, software and games), as well as emerging ones such as AR/VR and wearable tech. Students will learn user testing methods and the importance of integrating human experience into the design process.

What: MSc in Computing Science with specialization in Multimedia (2 yrs)

Where: University of Alberta

Why: Multimedia development has evolved rapidly in the past two decades with the advancement of technology. UAlberta’s Multimedia Masters Program gives students an overview of current and emerging trends, such as haptic devices, 3DTV, augmented and virtual reality, and computer vision. Multimedia has become essential to many industries from healthcare to education. An eight-month internship allows students to gain practical experience building solutions for these industries.

Nanoengineering

What: Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics - Nanoengineering option

Where: University of Alberta

Why: Nanotechnology is the study, design and fabrication of materials less than a micrometre. Home to some of the most advanced nanotechnology facilities and equipment in Canada, including the nanoFAB, UAlberta is at the forefront of this new and exciting field, which has seemingly countless industrial applications — from building better computers to turning windows into solar panels.
