About the Shaw Conference Centre

You can grace your event with amazing spaces, spectacular views, superb food, and great convenience too. First class is affordable here.

Penthouse on the North Saskatchewan
An extraordinary work of architecture, the SCC gives your attendees a cosmopolitan downtown just out the front door. Out the back is North America’s largest urban green space.

Built into the bank of the North Saskatchewan River, the SCC’s space gives panoramic vistas of the enchanting river valley.

A Local Business Boomer for a Quarter Century
Over 25 years, with hundreds of events each year, the SCC has hosted more than 10 million visitors. The SCC boosts Edmonton’s economy by an estimated $44 million a year.

Caring Corporate Citizenship
As host to Edmonton’s Homeless Connect program, the SCC brings together over 25 agencies helping the community’s poorest with services, including finding permanent shelter and employment.

Facts and figures about the SCC

  • The Assembly Level features 82,000 square feet of column-free exhibit space.
  • Visitors descend on escalators to the meeting and exhibition halls, through a sunny, plant-filled atrium with a grand view of the river valley. The 3 sets of escalators are the longest in Canada.
  • Approximately 70% of the building, 300,000 square feet, is built into the hillside above the river, which disguises how very large the building is. It is actually more than 10 stories from bottom to top.
  • Built into the side of Grierson Hill, the SCC is supported in place by a “tieback” system. Holes were drilled at 45 degrees along a 225 foot section of the river bank and were filled with reinforced concrete to anchor the structure.
  • The waterfall fountain in the atrium was donated by the National Congress of Italian Canadians to commemorate the 75th anniversaries of the City of Edmonton and province of Alberta. All money collected from the fountain is donated to local charities.
