Sous Chef

    The Shaw Conference Centre is one of Canada's major convention venues, renowned for its culinary and service excellence. We strive to be Greater Edmonton's flagship hospitality venue and act as an environmental responsible corporate citizen.    
    The Centre now has an opening for a full-time Sous Chef position. Reporting to the Executive Chef and the Executive Sous Chef, you will assist in the day-to-day operation and administration of the kitchen. Sous Chef is also responsible for supervising and training the Kitchen staff.

Major Duties include:
o Demonstrate food preparation with modern techniques and creativity;
o Feel, taste and examine appearance of food prepared and cooked by staff and inform of necessary adjustments;
o Daily supervision, give directions and assistance to staff;
o Estimate food consumption and requisition or purchase food;
o Ensure correct and timely distribution of food;
o Communicate any operational problems; discrepancies and shortages that will effect daily operations;
o Prevents waste and inefficient use of supplies.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
o College / CEGEP / Vocational training;
o Inter-provincial journeyman cook certificate;
o More than 5 years of related experience in a supervisory role;
o Ability to prioritize, access problems and make prompt decisions;
o Self-starter with initiative who can work with minimal direct supervision;
o Good communication skill in English;
o Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required;
o Good personal hygiene.

Chef de Partie   

The Shaw Conference Centre has an opening for a full-time Chef de Partie position. In this role, you will assist the Executive Chef and Sous Chef in the day-to-day operation and administration of the kitchen. Chef de partie is also responsible for the planning, preparation and presentation of food.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
o Inter-provincial journeyman cook certificate
o More than 2 years of related experience
o Good communication skill in English
o Supervisory experience
o Attention to detail
o Good personal hygiene

Kitchen Helper

The Shaw Conference Centre has an opening for a full-time Kitchen Helper position. In this role, you will assist in the preparation of food products and maintains the cleanliness of the kitchen area.

Security Officer

The Shaw Conference Centre has immediate openings for a full-time security position. In this role, you will be responsible for answering customer inquiries, monitoring building activity, ensuring the safety and security of staff, clients, contractors and members of the public.

Qualifications:

  • 6 months to 1 year security industry experience
  • Demonstrated report writing and investigation skills
  • Current certification in standard first aid or equivalent (St. John's, Red Cross, Emergency Medical Planning Canada - GMCC)
  • Ability to deal with people in a service-oriented manner
  • Ability to maintain calm and perform duties under stressful conditions
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Education in a related field of study is an asset (acceptable are Security Officer Career College, Norquest, Center High, Grant MacEwan, CDI College, U of A)
  • Training in use-of-force and verbal de-escalation is an asset
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit for significant periods of time
  • Flexible schedule to work shifts
  • Physical ability - Security guards often have to handle and transport materials that are over 25lbs

Housekeeping Supervisor

Reporting to the Executive Housekeeper or the Event Services Manager, this position is responsible for providing direction and guidance to department staff in their daily work tasks and for ensuring SCC meets standards of cleanliness required by management.

Specific duties include:

  • Assign and supervise the work of Housekeeping employees
  • May perform cleaning inspections of building contracted to private cleaning companies to ensure conformance to contracts and specifications
  • Check and review work completed for adherence to instructions and work standards and takes the necessary action to correct deficiencies
  • Assist in training programs by conducting demonstrations of work methods for new employees
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and logbook records
  • Perform related work as required
  • Will operate and maintain housekeeping machinery (floor washers, vacuums, etc.)
  • Ensure that requests from all departments are completed in a prompt and efficient manner
  • Able to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Will ensure staff maintains a high degree of personal grooming
  • Able to work well under pressure

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • More than 5 years of Housekeeping experience combined with experience in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge of standard methods, policies, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment employed in the housekeeping care and maintenance of building
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instruction in English
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Must have unrestricted schedule availability (24/7)
