Programs to Employ International Students

Hiring international students can help Edmonton businesses meet their short-term and long-term employment needs. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has work permit programs that are easy to use and do not require an employer to obtain a labour market opinion.

Alberta Provincial Nominee Program
International students can be supported for permanent residency by an Alberta employer through the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program. It's an employer-driven, skilled worker immigration program designed to expedite permanent residency.

Federal Skilled Worker Program
Enables students who meet the selection criteria to become permanent residents of Canada. Candidates must score a minimum of 67 out of a possible 100 points.

Off-Campus Work Permit Program
Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time during school breaks.

Post-Graduation Employment Program
Graduates can work for up to 2 years after graduation in employment related to their field of study.

Further information about CIC Permit Programs can be found on the CIC website.

Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC)

Festivals

"The Edmonton Folk Music Festival is the gold standard for such events in Canada. Often sold out well in advance, the festival has attracted such diverse talents as Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello and K.D Lang. It also has a great venue: a grassy hillside overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley and the city’s downtown that acts as a natural amphitheatre". Edmonton Unplugged, Macleans
