According to Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry, in January, 2007, the provincial unemployment rate was 3.3%, down from 3.5% in January, 2006. This is currently the lowest unemployment rate in Canada and was much lower than the national average of 6.2%. The number of employed increased by 117,900 over 2006 and in January, 2007, the province posted the highest employment rate (71.5%) in 30 years.
