Edmonton Research Park

  • The ERP is a campus for smart companies and has been home to the city’s most innovative and best recognized technology companies since 1980.
  • More than 1,500 people work for 55 companies in the ERP. They are engaged in advanced research in medicine, biotechnology, software, petroleum research, cold-climate engineering and nanotechnology.
  • The Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) is an incubator facility that looks like a series of greenhouses on a grassy slope. Architect Barry Johns won a number of awards for its design, including the 1992 Governor
  • General’s Award for Architecture, the 1986 Canadian Architect Magazine Award of Excellence, and the 2000 RAIC Millennium Celebration of Architecture.
  • The Research Centre One building has flexible lab and production space for second-stage companies. The makers of Cold-FX were housed in Research Centre One until their operations became so successful, they built their own building in the Park under the Biotech Lease Program.
  • The Biotechnology Business Development Centre (BBDC) partially opened in 2008 for biotechnology companies needing wet lab and office space. EMD Serono Canada Inc., whose parent company is Merck Serono S.A., is one of the major tenants in the building occupying over 30,000 sq. ft of space.

  • Edmonton was selected as one of the top 21 intelligent communities by The Intelligent Community Forum in 2008. This was partly in thanks to the Edmonton Research Park’s vibrant community of technology and research-driven, start-up companies.
