Fresh Ideas

In Edmonton, our natural surroundings, wide open green space, clean air and endless sunshine inspire our creativity. We’re positive you’ll be inspired too. If your organization is looking for fresh new perspectives, you should look at our city to host your next conference. We created this list of ideas to help you with your decision.

1. Serve locally grown food at your next conference.
Buying locally produced food reduces fuel and cuts down on transportation costs. We recommend visiting sites like dinealberta.ca. Their ideas are as fresh as our famous Alberta Beef.

8. Have more fun.
Edmonton is really good at having fun. Whether it’s our downtown nightclubs, incredible theatre community or eclectic music scene, we’ve got the perfect diversions for you and your conference guests.

2. Take in a Festival.
Edmonton hosts over 30 annual festivals including the world-renowned Folk, Street Performers and Fringe Festivals. Ask about our award-winning Edmonton Festival City in a Box program – where we bring our art and culture road show to you.

9. Explore one of the world’s greatest malls with a personal shopper.
It’s been called a shoppers paradise and its even better when you have a personal shopper giving you the inside scoop. Next conference, take a well earned shopping break at one of the world’s largest malls -- West Edmonton Mall.

3. Take a fashion break.
Conferences shouldn’t be all work and no play. Visit Old Strathcona— voted one of Canada’s top five shopping districts, hire a personal shopper at West Edmonton Mall or shop at your own pace at one of our many world-class shopping malls and districts.

10. Year round skating.
Edmonton is simply one of the best places in the world to go for a skate. Enjoy a fresh winters day on one of our many picturesque outdoor rinks. Or if you prefer the indoor variety we have over 20 rinks to choose from, many of which are open all year.

4. Donate leftover food.
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), close to half of the food produced world-wide goes to waste. We’ll make sure that any left-over food from your event is sent to the right people.

11. Sky Watching
Edmonton is famous for it’s views of the skies. Whether you want a front row seat to the Northern Lights or a Meteor shower, Edmonton offers some of the best places to star gaze on the planet.

5. Art, a fresh perspective.
Edmonton is all about incredible art–from the inspiring Art Gallery of Alberta and the Gallery Walk (the first of its kind in Canada) to our famous theatre community, Edmonton is sure to move your spirit and your soul.

12. Edmonton Queen River Boat.
Take a riverboat cruise aboard the Edmonton Queen and see our beautiful city from a whole new perspective. Host a meeting of up to 150 people or go as a small group, and enjoy the hospitality aboard one of Canada’s only original paddle wheel river boats.

6. Take a breather in our River Valley.
Edmonton’s River Valley has it all. From towering trees and miles of hiking paths to cross country ski trails and Canada’s Largest Living Museum--Fort Edmonton Park. It’s an urban sanctuary 22 times larger then Central Park.

13. Pan for Gold.
Our streets aren’t quite paved with gold, but our riverbanks are covered with gold deposits. Relive the spirit of the Klondike at Fort Edmonton Park and Pan for gold to your hearts content. Who knows you might just strike it rich.

7. A new shade of green.
We make it easy for you to plan a green conference with our ECO Report Card & Sustainable Meeting Guide. Bench mark your progress and create a follow up program to take with you.

14. Winter Light Festival.
Based on a theme of ‘light’, Winter Light is a festival that runs every winter in Edmonton. It celebrates our city’s unique sense of place, climate and environment. Winter Light encourages us to share winter’s beauty, the fire’s warmth and our shared humanity.
