Last friendly match played here in Edmonton

On June 18th, Team Canada played their last of 6 friendly matches before the start of the World Cup tournament next month. Canada squared off against the Czech Republic in front of a crowd of over 4,000. The play was mostly being controlled by the Canadians. Unfortunately the game was cut short due to Lightning and Thunder in the 53rd minute. Although there was no score, it was a very exciting match with both teams exchanging scoring opportunities. The crowd was enthusiastic and excited to see Team Canada in action.

Team Canada Pep Rally

On June 15th, Team Canada and the Edmonton Site Organizing committee hosted a Pep Rally in Churchill Square to promote awareness of our tournament and give the public the opportunity to see the team close up. Kids were given the opportunity to get memorabilia signed by the team and ask their favorite players some questions.

Training Session with Team Canada

On June 13th, Team Canada organized a special training session for 26 lucky kids. These kids were chosen from the various soccer associations around Alberta and were granted the chance of a lifetime. All the kids were practicing various drills with the team and watching the future of international soccer do the same. The kids enjoyed a very enthusiastic and enjoyable atmosphere with the team. They were given a chance at the end of the game to get autographs and signatures from the players.

Friendly Match with Czech Republic to be held in Edmonton

The Canadian Soccer Association announced May 1st that Canada will host the Czech Republic in an International friendly match in Edmonton on June 18th. This will be Edmonton’s only opportunity to see Team Canada in action prior to the start of the World Cup Tournament. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7pm from Commonwealth Stadium. Tickets available through ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com or 866 - 662 - 3452).

SINGLE TICKET SALES ON NOW!

FIFA has now begun selling single tickets for each of the games to be held in Edmonton. You can now log onto www.FIFA.com or call 1-866-662-3452 to purchase your tickets for the games. Tickets for the games range from $10 - $20 for games between July 2nd & July 14th. Tickets for the July 18th semi-final game will be between $15 & $30. Tournament Packages are still available for $150 by logging onto www.FIFA.com or by calling 1-866-662-3452 for information. All tickets are subject to applicable taxes and services charges.

Pep Rally & Soccer Jersey Theme Day

On June 15th, 2007, you can come support the Canadian U20 Men’s Soccer team during their Pep Rally to be held in Churchill Square from Noon – 1pm. The team will be in attendance along with the coaching staff. There will be the live presentation of Team Canada’s team escorts for their two scheduled games here in Edmonton.

Also on June 15th, the Edmonton SOC World Cup ‘Blitz Team’ along with the Downtown Business Association ‘Ambassadors’ will be handing out prizes to anyone who is seen wearing any soccer jersey. They will be distributing yellow and red cards as well as prizes will be given to office teams that present the most unique picture that involve soccer jerseys.

History Made With Canada 2007 Ticket Sales

FIFA U-20 World Cup will make Canadian sports history as FIFA and the National Organizing Committee (NOC) announced today that advanced ticket sales for the tournament have eclipsed the mark that will ensure over a half of a million spectators will attend this summer's top-flight tournament. Surpassing this milestone confirms that the FIFA U-20 World Cup will be the largest single-sport sporting event ever to take place in Canada.

David Edgar Scores Against Manchester United

Team Canada U-20 National Team Player David Edgar scored a late equalizer (2 - 2 final score) on his home debut for Newcastle United against premiership leaders Manchester United. Edgar hit a shot from 25 yards out that took a slight deflection off of Paul Scholes and beat Edwin Van Der Sar. Said Edgar, “It was a big thing just to be called in and I took my chance”.

Dale Mitchell Press Conference

U-20 National Team Coach Dale Mitchell held a press conference on November 10, 2006 at Commonwealth Stadium to discuss the preparations of the U-20 team, the importance of local support for Team Canada during the event and also commented on the incredible support for National soccer teams in Edmonton historically.

Expo Latino Review

August 19th and 20th the FIFA U-20 Promotions team set up a booth in Churchill square for Expo Latino. The promotions team was able to spread the word about the event to countless visitors to the event and at the same time take in the amazing cultural experience that showed how strong latin culture is in Edmonton and Alberta.

August 26th and 27th the FIFA U-20 Promotions team was at the Strathcona Athletic Park in Sherwood Park for the U-14 and U-18 Tier 1 boys and girls provincials. Along with meeting several interested soccer enthusiasts over the weekend the team was able to catch some of the unbelievable soccer action between the top teams in the province in those respective age groups.
